New player registration

Once you have been allocated a team by an Age Co-ordinator you will be asked to register online via the PlayHQ website.

If you do not already have an account with PlayHQ, you will be prompted to create one during the registration process. It is recommended that you use a personal email address, not a work email address. A confirmation email will be sent to that email address.

Common questions

  • Games in Victoria are played in two 20‑minute halves. The clock is reset for each half.

During finals the clock stops for all timeouts and whistles during the last 2 minutes of the second half. There's also a 2‑minute halftime break and teams get two timeouts per half.

  • This varies, however is closely linked to school terms.

Winter season runs during Term 2 and Term 3, while Summer season runs from Term 4 and concludes at the end of term 1.

Generally, a season runs for 11 to 14 playing weeks.

  • The upcoming Summer fee is $345.

This fee is paid at the beginning of the season.

It includes 120 minutes of basketball a week (40 min training / 40 minute Saturday game) for 2 school terms: Start of October through March.

    This fee covers;
    40 minute training,
    40 minute game,
    Training venue hire,
    Game day venue hire,
    Referee payment,
    Insurance,
    Training aids,
    Club administration.

As we are a community club, we are a not-for-profit and reinvest funds back into the club.

The club attempts to keep the fees as low as possible so all can enjoy the game.

The membership fee is calculated according to the length of the season, for example the Winter season is generally a few weeks longer, (more games – more venue hire fees).

In addition to this there is an annual Basketball Victoria Annual Participant Licence fee of $32 paid once a year per player. This covers players for 365 days, regardless of how many teams or associations they register with.

  • The playing top is $47.50 and is reversible, and shorts are $30. Other merchandise is available through PlayHQ but not essential.

Along with the uniform you will also need to bring a basketball for training.

    Ball size 5 U8 - U12
Ball size 6 for U14 Boys and U14+ Girls
Ball size 7 for U16+ Boy

Depending on quality, a practice ball will range in price from $20 to $80.

  • This fee covers training and game day venue hire, referee fees, insurance, training aids, and club administration.

The membership fee is calculated according to what the venues charge for hire and the length of the season, for example the Winter season is generally a few weeks longer, (more games – more venue hire fees).

  • At Stars, we’re committed to providing equal opportunities for all our athletes.

A key part of this is placing players in teams that reflect their appropriate age group, making sure everyone has the chance to participate and develop their skills.

While we do our best to group players with friends where possible, we can’t always guarantee it – but we do aim to create a positive and supportive team experience for every player.

  • Age Groupings are mandated by Coburg Basketball Association, which requires that players are UNDER the designated age as of the 31st of December.

For example, if a player is turning 16 on the 1st of October, then that player must be playing in the U18 competition. See ‘Age groupings for 2025-26 season’ for more information.

  • Yes! The best way is to get in touch via the form below and we can sort out a trial session during training (Tuesdays or Wednesdays).

If your child is not quite ready to join a team there are other ways to build skills and develop a love of the game. Coburg Basketball Association offers programs within term and school holidays. See dome of their programs here.
