The STARS Basketball Club is a non-profit community club incorporated in 1994.
Affiliated with the Coburg Basketball Association, our Club prides itself in being community focused and driven to providing an opportunity for kids and young adults to enjoy basketball year-round.
We come from, represent and reflect our diverse community. We will enrich, connect and include everyone. STARS Basketball Club is managed by family and friends of players. All committee and team officials are volunteers.
RESPECT
The game of basketball.
––––––––––––––––––––
Respect is at the heart of basketball. We respect the game by playing fairly, listening to coaches, valuing our teammates, and showing gratitude to umpires who help make every match possible.
Win or lose, how we treat others on and off the court defines us as true basketball players.
ENJOY
The game of basketball.
––––––––––––––––––––
Basketball is fun! From the thrill of a fast break to the joy of sinking a shot, the game brings energy, excitement, and connection.
Whether playing with friends, learning new skills, or just running up and down the court, basketball offers a great way to stay active and love the game.
APPLYING
Oneself through basketball.
––––––––––––––––––––
Basketball encourages players to apply themselves fully – physically, mentally, and emotionally. It teaches discipline, focus, and persistence through training and competition.
Whether it’s mastering a skill, learning plays, or working through setbacks, players discover the value of hard work, setting goals, and pushing beyond their limits – lessons that extend far beyond the court.
LEARNING
Life skills through basketball.
––––––––––––––––––––
Basketball is more than a game – it’s a powerful way to learn life skills. Players build lasting friendships, develop teamwork, and learn to communicate, cooperate, and support one another.
Through wins and losses, they grow resilience and sportsmanship – skills that shape confident, respectful individuals both on and off the court.
Together we play
Presently our membership covers community members from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, Darebin residents on low incomes or experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage, recently arrived migrants, refugees, people seeking asylum, and LGBTIQA+ people.
Given the Club represents all members of our community, we acknowledge the importance of sport as a universal activity, and as an opportunity for all members to learn from each other's backgrounds and experiences.
STARS values and celebrates diversity and is committed to providing an inclusive sporting environment for children and young people regardless of their cultural background, family circumstances, ethnicity or abilities.
Whilst our Club has historically focused on engaging with local youth, we have recently commenced providing opportunities for adults in the form of sponsorship in a senior basketball competition provided through the Coburg Basketball Association, and discounted gym memberships via our affiliation with the Northern Bullants.
2025 Committee
A strong committee is the heartbeat of any successful community basketball club. It ensures smooth operations, supports coaches and players, organises events, manages finances, and helps grow the game for everyone.
Whether you have experience or just a passion for basketball, your contribution makes a difference. We welcome new faces, fresh ideas, and helping hands.
